Orange Launches Recycle & Reward

New service is powered by Regenersis.

ORANGE LAUNCHES 'RECYCLE & REWARD'

Recycle old mobiles, laptops and personal music players for cash

Available in all Orange stores at any time to any member of the public

Orange today launches Recycle & Reward, a scheme for people to recycle their old mobiles, laptops and personal music players in UK Orange stores in exchange for cash. Recycle & Reward underlines Orange’s commitment to becoming a more sustainable, greener business, Recycle & Reward will help reduce the amount of electronic goods sent to landfill and, instead, help consumers obtain a competitive price for them.

Recycle & Reward enables customers to find out the monetary value of their old electronic goods straight away in UK stores, and the money is sent to the customer in the form of a cheque received within approximately 7 days. Orange offers a range of cash rewards depending on the particular device and whether or not it currently works. Orange will also recycle electronic devices and accessories with no monetary value, helping the public to minimise their impact on the environment in disposing of old goods.

Orange is working with Regenersis, Europe's largest mobile phone recycler. Phones will come to Regenersis and all data will be completely removed from the devices. They will be thoroughly tested and sent to developing countries to provide affordable communications. Devices which are too old or beyond economical repair will be safely recycled, ensuring that nothing goes to landfill.

Paul French, Head of Care Products said: “At Orange, we’ve made some significant strides recently in reducing the environmental impact of our business. For instance, 80 percent of our electricity now comes from renewable sources while in July we introduced the mini-SIM to reduce the amount of waste associated with new SIM cards. Recycle & Reward is just another small step, for us as a business and for the public, in our journey towards greener, more sustainable practices.”

Mark Franklin, Managing Director of Regenersis said, "We are delighted to be supporting Orange in delivering a trusted and environmentally sound solution for customers at the point they discard an older mobile phone. It’s an exciting time for Orange and its customers and this solution adds another convenient service to all Orange retail stores”.

--ends--

Regenersis launches FONEBAK.com allowing consumers to sell their phones for cash, and donate some or all of the proceeds to one of the UK's best loved charities - BBC Children in Need

EUROPE'S LARGEST MOBILE PHONE RECYCLER LAUNCHES EASY ONLINE TRADE-IN SITE BENEFITING CONSUMERS AND CHARITY

Regenersis launches FONEBAK.com allowing consumers to sell their phones for cash, and donate some or all of the proceeds to one of the UK's best loved charities – BBC Children in Need

5 October 2009. Regenersis, Europe’s largest mobile phone recycler, has teamed for the fifth year with BBC Children in Need to collect unwanted mobile phones for recycling and offering eco-conscious consumers the opportunity to donate to the charity via a new Web site – FONEBAK.COM (www.FONEBAK.com).

Regenersis has raised more than £1 million for BBC Children in Need since 2005, but this year will be different, as the new Web site will offer consumers an easier way to donate to the charity with their old mobile phones. FONEBAK.COM allows consumers to send in their mobile phones via freepost and decide how much they want to donate to the charity - from 10p to 100% of the value of the handset.

"Although we have raised over £1million for BBC Children in Need since 2005, we are hoping to increase that amount substantially by offering this new online solution”, said Mark Franklin, Managing Director of Regenersis and FONEBAK.com. “With so many online sites, we want consumers to have a safe and trusted place to sell their handset, with the opportunity to donate to one of the UK's best-loved charities."

With more than 15 million mobile phones replaced every year and an estimated 90 million sitting in drawers and toy boxes across the country, FONEBAK.com is an easy way to raise money for your self and for charity.

Unlike other online mobile phone recycling sites, FONEBAK.com delivers the same benefits to consumers that networks like Vodafone, Orange and O2 have enjoyed for years – full data clearance on every handset received offering full identity protection; rigorous testing and refurbishment of all products to ensure they are fit for reuse in developing countries; and a zero landfill policy. FONEBAK.COM offers this is all with prices comparable to other online sites assuring eco-conscious consumers that the environment is protected as well as their identity. (In December 2008, Regenersis studied a random sample of 2000 handsets and found that 99% of handsets received contained some sort of personal data.)

Phones sent in to FONEBAK.com are processed and functional refurbished handsets are sent to developing countries to improve their communications. Phones that are not suitable for re-use will be sent for recycling ensuring that nothing ends up in landfill.

Visitors to the site can see how much has been raised by looking at the counter. Fundraisers (i.e. schools, communities and businesses) can collect quantities of handsets and FONEBAK will send out a courier to collect them free of charge. The BBC Children in Need team have also produced a poster which can be downloaded from bbc.co.uk/Pudsey or from the FONEBAK.com website.

With a commitment to corporate responsibility and environmental excellence being our core, we have received numerous awards for marketplace innovation, environmental excellence and responsible business practice, including the prestigious Queen's Award for Export, and awards from Business in the Community (of which HRH Prince Charles is President).

About BBC Children in Need

BBC Children in Need's mission is to make a positive change to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Their vision is a society where each and every child and young person is supported to realise their potential.

In 2008 the BBC Children in Need Appeal raised over £37 million and for every penny you gave the charity, a penny will go towards projects helping disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. They are able to make this promise because the charity uses its investment income and Gift Aid to cover all running costs. Every year, thanks to public donations and the amazing efforts of fundraisers, schools, businesses and our corporate partners, they are able to provide support to thousands of youngsters aged 18 and under.

Thus support is provided in the form of grants to organisations working with children who may have experienced mental, physical or sensory disabilities; behavioural or psychological disorders; are living in poverty or situations of deprivation; or suffering through distress, abuse or neglect.

Proposed Acquisition of TRS and Placing

Regenersis plc (“Regenersis” or “the Group” or “the Company”)

Proposed Acquisition and Placing

Regenersis plc (LSE: RGS), a leading provider of after sales product support services to many of the world’s premier technology brands, is pleased to announce that it has agreed to acquire Total Repair Solutions Limited (the “Acquisition”) for a total enterprise value of £6.25 million and that it proposes to raise £3.3 million through an underwritten placing by KBC Peel Hunt.

Highlights

Total Repair Solutions Limited (“TRS”) is a privately owned outsource service provider with a strong position in the after-sales mobile phone sector and is highly complementary to Regenersis’ own successful service business. TRS has established relationships with several high profile global OEMs and network operators providing them with repair, returns management and end-of-life recycling services for mobile phones and currently processes approximately 100,000 handsets per month.

In the financial year ended 31 March 2009, TRS generated £22.5 million of revenue (2008: £18.3 million) and EBITDA (before deduction of management fees) of £1.4 million (2008: £1.1 million).

TRS is being acquired for a total enterprise value of £6.25 million which consists of £3.25 million payable through the issue of Consideration Shares at 40 pence per share to Total Repair Solutions Holdings Limited (the beneficial owner of which is Richard Emanuel) as vendor and sole shareholder in TRS and £3.0 million in cash which will be used to repay the bank facility currently held by TRS such that the business is being acquired on a debt free basis.

The Consideration Shares will equate to 18.1 per cent of the enlarged issued share capital of the Company and will be subject to transfer restrictions for twelve months following completion of the transaction.

In order to fund the cash requirement of the transaction, the Company is proposing to raise £3.3 million before expenses by way of an underwritten placing of 8,352,675 new Ordinary Shares by KBC Peel Hunt to institutional and other investors at the Placing Price of 40 pence per share. The Directors will together subscribe for £65,000 of Placing Shares.

Commenting on the acquisition Gary Stokes, Regenersis plc Chief Executive Officer said:

“We have consistently said that to deliver long-term success in our core, value-added service business we would need to increase both our geographic scale and service capability. Our clients are encouraging consolidation and using fewer but larger suppliers to fulfil their after-sales needs. At the moment ours is a fragmented marketplace and the increasing consolidation we are seeing, and in many ways leading, means that both increased operational scale and the synergy opportunities this provides are crucial to accelerating our long-term ambitions.

“This acquisition not only helps us take a step towards achieving our aims, but it does so in a way that is highly complementary to our existing offering and very closely aligned to our own ethos of service excellence and delighted customers. I look forward to working with TRS’s exceptionally committed and talented management team in driving our two businesses forward.”

"Hand over your unused phone and help save a life" says Deputy Mayor of London

Kit Malthouse, Deputy Mayor for Policing, today urged Londoners to hand over their unused mobile phones to improve safety for those at risk of domestic violence.

Kit Malthouse, Deputy Mayor for Policing, today urged Londoners to hand over their unused mobile phones to improve safety for those at risk of domestic violence.

Kit Malthouse was the keynote speaker at the launch of the fonesforsafety® project at City Hall, which reconfigures donated mobile phones into ‘999 only’ alarms for victims of domestic violence. The logistics and reconfiguration are managed by Regenersis.

The London-wide launch of fonesforsafety®, run by Elephant Jobs, follows successful pilots in Southwark and Hounslow

On April 21 the Mayor of London Boris Johnson launched ‘The Way Forward’, his strategy to tackle all forms of violence against women in London, including domestic violence. The fonesforsafety® project will be working with the ‘The Way Forward’ team to help prioritise the roll out of this project to London boroughs over the next two years.

Kit Malthouse said:
“Domestic violence is utterly unacceptable and we must do everything within our power to punish the perpetrators and support those at risk. ‘I urge everyone to take a look around their home and donate any unused or unwanted mobile phones. ‘A direct line to the police could be a potential lifesaver.”

During the launch the Deputy Mayor handed over 25 reconfigured phones to the newly formed fonesforsafety® partnership in Hackney.

Project Coordinator, Marie Tan Kiak Li, said: “The fonesforsafety® project brings together two very different yet pressing issues: increasing recycling and combating domestic violence. Rolling out this project across all London boroughs over the next two years will increase awareness about both issues, as well as provide a means for individuals affected by domestic violence to feel safer. This project is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved in so many ways”

fonesforsafety® are asking the public, local businesses, chambers of commerce’s and councils to support the scheme by donating unwanted phones, providing collection points in businesses and commercial premises and sponsoring freepost envelopes.

To find out how you can get involved visit www.fonesforsafety.co.uk

Notes to Editors

On April 20th the Mayor launched ‘The Way Forward’ his strategy to end violence against women in London. ‘The Way Forward’ is open to public consultation until July 20th.

fonesforsafety® is part of the CRISP (Community Recycling in Southwark Project), a division of Elephant Jobs. It was launched in Southwark in 2002.

There are currently two pilot fonesforsafety® projects running in London - one in Southwark and another in Hounslow. Nationally there are pilots running in Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow and Norfolk.

Regenersis Recognised by the Industry for Environmental Excellence

Regenersis was awarded the prestigious Best Environmental Enterprise Award at the 2009 Mobile News Awards.

Recognised as one of the industry's leading events, the awards were attended by over 1000 industry professionals. Regenersis won the hotly contested award over five other shortlisted companies.

Collecting the award on behalf of Regenersis, Managing Director, Mark Franklin commented: "We are absolutely delighted to be recognised by the industry for our commitment to environmental excellence. With the recent publication of our recommendations for industry standards for the reuse and recycling of handsets, we are demonstrating that our commitment to environmental excellence is second to none. Our job is to help protect our clients valuable brands by ensuring that every product we receive for reuse or recycling is treated with the utmost care and resposibility."

Regenersis recently published a research paper and called for industry standards for the reuse and recycling of mobile phones. These standards demand that every mobile phone reuse and recycling company clear the data from every handset received to protect consumers from the danger of identity theft, ban the export of non-working handsets which could end up as e-waste in developing countries, and to operate a zero landfill policy for all products which are not suitable for reuse.
Regenersis Calls for Industry Standards

Europe's largest mobile recycler calls for all data to be removed, a ban on non-working handsets and a zero landfill policy among all recyclers.

Regenersis, Europe’s largest mobile phone recycling and reuse provider, is demanding new standards for mobile phone recycling across Europe which include the removal of all data from handsets received, a ban on the export of non-working handsets which could end up as waste, and a zero landfill policy. The Company has produced a research paper as a first step to setting industry standards for the reuse and recycling of unwanted mobile phones, of which there are an estimated 15m replaced each year in the UK alone.

The standards focus on three main areas:

The removal of all personal data from every handset received to protect the identity of those who have willingly returned an unwanted handset

Segregating working from non-working handsets at source rather than shipping all products received to developing economies.

Operating a zero landfill policy and ensuring that all non-working, non repairable products are recycled in their home market rather than in places such as China, India or Africa, minimizing impact on the environment

The company processed over 2m handsets for reuse and recycling in 2008 and supports major brands like Orange, O2, and Vodafone; major charities like Shelter, Sense and BBC Children in Need; and operates the Coolafone joint venture.

Regenersis studied a random sample of 2000 handsets processed during the first week in December and found that 99% of handsets received contained some sort of personal data, including: Contacts, SMS messages, pictures, music, videos, calendar entries, emails, notes, mailing lists and to do lists. In some cases, extremely sensitive information was contained, including bank details, addresses, and confidential emails. The Company has operated a zero landfill policy for over five years.

Mark Franklin, Managing Director of Regenersis said, “The reuse and recycling market is becoming more and more crowded and we want to ensure that the consumer, when making a choice of recyclers, is making an informed and responsible decision. By implementing these standards, we protect the consumer by removing all data from the devices received. We protect the markets to which our products are resold, by only remarketing quality products, and we protect the environment by ensuring that nothing goes to landfill."
The company undertook market research in December of 2008 and found that over 90% of consumers would be shocked, annoyed or disappointed if their mobile phone had not been handled in this manner.

Noel's HQ Raises Enough Money for Two Support Dogs

Regenersis runs nationwide mobile phone recycling appeal with Sky 1

Regenersis would like to thank all those people who donated their unwanted mobile phones to help Support Dogs via the Noel's Mobiles appeal on Noel's HQ on Sky 1. As a result, over the four weeks of the show, we were able to raise enough money to fund the training of two assistance dogs (at £10,000 each!). The campaign will run for the rest of the year, so if you have an unwanted mobile phone and would like to help raise funds for Support Dogs, please pop your unwanted mobile in an envelope and send it to FREEPOST NOEL'S HQ.*

Noel Edmonds said, "Support Dogs is a fabulous charity which selects dogs, mainly from rescue centres, and trains them to become Assisstance Dogs. Using the special bond we have with man's best friend, the dogs are taught essential tasks (eg to raise the alarm, call an ambulance, open/close doors, assist with dressing, load the washing machine, and fetch the telephone). As a registered Assistance Dog, they can accompany their owner at all times, enabling the disabled person to lead a more full and independent life. Support Dogs rely soley on donations and receive no government funding."

Visit the Support Dogs website

Watch the Video!

*Please remove the SIM card before sending in a mobile phone. Once products are sent to our recycling centre, they cannot be returned. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian for permission before sending anything to us. Products that cannot be used will be sent for recycling, ensuring that nothing ends up on landfill. Regenersis plc does not accept responsibility for products sent for recycling without the permission of the owner.

Regenersis tops 2m handsets processed in 2008

Processing one mobile phone every 15 seconds -- but finds that 99% of handsets received contained personal data

Regenersis, Europe’s largest mobile phone recycling and reuse provider, announced that they processed over 2 million handsets for reuse and recycling in 2008. The company supports major brands like Orange, O2, and Vodafone; major charities like Shelter, Sense and BBC Children in Need; and operates the Coolafone joint venture.

The Company processed 2,007,652 handsets, the equivalent of one every 15 seconds. Handsets are cleared of all data and fully tested. If a handset is beyond repair or too old it is sent for safe recycling, ensuring nothing goes to landfill.

In addition, Regenersis studied a random sample of 2000 handsets processed during the first week in December and found that 99% of handsets received contained some sort of personal data, including: Contacts, SMS messages, pictures, music, videos, calendar entries, emails, notes, mailing lists and to do lists. In some cases, extremely sensitive information was contained, including bank details, addresses, and confidential emails.

Mark Franklin, Managing Director of Regenersis said, “We processed over 2 million handsets in 2008. Data clearance of these handsets is critical to ensure the security of those who entrust their unwanted mobiles to us. This can often take as long as 30 minutes depending on the complexity of the handset, so only the most reputable firms bother to do this essential work. Our advice to consumers is to check with the recycling firm to confirm that all data will be removed. If it isn’t, then think twice before sending them your handset as your data could end up in the wrong hands.”
